Not sure whether the item that just dropped is better than what your character is wielding? The lists below will give you an idea of what stats are important for your particular class and spec.

You can find more detailed and finely tuned stat weightings on wowhead or Elitist Jerks, but these lists will give you a start.

About us

Enemy of the Sun is a guild for the game World of Warcraft, on the Hyjal server.

We are a casual guild, mostly of people who know each other in real life. We exist for three purposes:

Grouping for quests or instances
Community
Helping each other out

Who we want

We want nice, thoughtful folks. You don’t have to be the best WoW player but hopefully you are interested in improving. Mostly we want people who know at least one of us in real life, but that is not a strict rule. We are mostly write resume people in our 30s, so we’d like grownups or at least people who can act grown-up in a pinch.

Guild Bank

Pitching in

It’s not a requirement, but we’d love if you contributed to the guild bank. Gold and most items can be placed into the guild bank or mailed to Beincoir.

There are four tabs in the guild bank.

Tab one, general use

Accessible by all members. If you can make use of something here, grab it. If you have an item which you can’t use, but might be useful to someone else, place it here. Think “Take a penny; leave a penny.”

Try not to dump useless crap into the guild bank. We’ll sell languishing items and add the proceeds back to the bank.

Tab two, dungeon consumables

Accessible by Future Sailors and above. Contains items such as potions, buff foods, and armor kits. Group leaders might give out some of these items at the beginning of a group outing.

Tab three, craft materials

Accessible by Future Sailors and above. Use this stuff to help level your trade skill. Please be sure to use that skill to help out the guild.

Tab 4, raid consumables

Accessible by Conquistadors and above. Use this stuff for guild runs.

Tab five, high-value items.

Repairs

Members of rank Future Sailor and above can charge their armor repairs to the guild rather than paying out of pocket. To avoid bleeding the bank dry, please limit your repairs as follows:

Characters may charge all repairs to the guild through level 20. From level 21 on, the guild is happy to cover repairs before, during, and after a guild group event. Otherwise, please pay for your own repairs. Write resume now.

If the guild supports your character through the early levels, please pitch in with gold, items, or time once you reach higher levels. Thanks.

Loot Rules

In general

We are here to have fun and we value people over virtual loot.

All loot that drops in a guild run belongs to the guild. We try to distribute loot in the way that most benefits the guild.

For 5-man instances

Roll need if the item looks like an upgrade and you plan to equip it soon. If you can use it for an alt or not for a while, ask the group or simply roll greed. If someone makes a mistake, try not to sweat it too much.

We would love if you donated items you don’t need to the Guild Bank.

For raiding

Loot threshold

If you loot a green or blue item while in a raid, the item is yours. Have fun.

Purple items and better will be distributed by the master looter.

Main spec rolls

NOTE: For purposes of loot, your “main spec” is the spec you started the raid with.

Out of combat, the master looter announces over Ventrilo that s/he is linking an item.
Master looter links the item into raid chat for all to see.
Master looter announces the item name and short description (eg, “spellpower mace,” “chain strength shoulders,” etc) into Ventrilo.
/roll if you think the item is an upgrade for the spec you entered with (if it happens to not be an upgrade when you have time to check later, you can pass it.)
Master looter pauses, counts down from 5, types "---" into raid chat. This closes the rolling.
Master looter awards item to the highest roller.
Unclaimed items go to an in-guild enchanter when possible.

Off-spec

If no one claims the item before the master looter closes the rolling, then s/he will repeat the process.

This time, you may roll if the item is a sidegrade or for an offspec.

Bind on Equip

Raiders who win a BoE item must equip the item immediately.

Any BoE drop which is not an upgrade for anyone in the raid become property of the guild. Guild items will be sold or held for future use. Any non-members in the raid will receive a pro-rated portion of the expected sale price—2/3 of the Auctioneer market price.

For example, an item drops in a 10-man raid which Auctioneer thinks is worth 6000 gold. We expect this item to actually sell for 4000 gold. Any non-member present for the drop will receive 400 gold, drawn from guild funds. If the same item dropped in a 25-man raid, non-members would receive 4000/25 or 160 gold each.

Required for raiders

Please install each of these if you will be joining guild raids.

Omen 3	A threat meter. Helps us group better by making sure the baddies attack the tank instead of everybody else. Keeping an eye on threat can make the difference between winning a fight and a complete wipe.
AEmotes & AEmotes Kelly	We require this addon to keep our raids FABULOUS.
Deadly Boss Mods	Provides timers and other warnings for very bad things which happen during boss fights. There are other boss mods available if DBM isn’t your style.
oRA3	Helps raid leaders monitor cooldowns and such. Slices bread.

Recommended Addons

Gnomish Yellow Pages	Automagically keeps track of other players’ tradeskill recipes. Zero configuration. A wonder to behold.
RatingBuster	Adds information to tooltips, comparing the current item to the one you have equipped. Handy for those “is this piece an upgrade?” moments.
Carbonite	Best damn thing since sliced bread. Does lots of good stuff. Used to cost money. Still worth money.

Create a macro and enter the following text below. Be sure to bind it to a key.

If you need materials to level a crafting profession,

List your character name and the exact things that you are looking for. Also list the profession you are working on in case someone wants to work on a profession unique in the guild.

If the guild helps you to level your profession, we’d like you to list that skill on the Trade Skills page. Or you can read essay for doing crafts for you to learn more.

If you have something that is listed and you don’t need it, send it to the character who listed it, send it to Beincoir, or place it in the Guild Bank.

Demolisher driver – You’re the main DPS, and your priority is to keep the pyrite stacked on the boss at 10 stacks. Also, you have range, so keep your distance from the boss. If needed, launch the passenger on top of the boss. (Aim well! There is a delay once you hit the button until the launch happens, so keep the targeting reticule on top of the boss. If you miss (overshooting is easy), you will probably kill your passenger)

Siege engine driver – Follow the boss close enough that you can interrupt the boss’s flame jet special ability with your electroshock ability (have to be facing him and within 25 yards). You can do dps with your ram and fire cannon, but save enough steam for the interrupts. About 5 seconds before the boss picks a new target (deadly boss mods will tell you this!!!) move away from him. You can use your steam rush ability to move away/towards the boss.

Motorcycle driver – Pick up any launched demolisher passengers. Heal them up, and get them back to their demolisher. When you’re not doing this, drop tar in front of the boss and drag any shot down pyrite canisters closer to the demolishers if they need them. Don’t get too close to the front of the boss, or you’ll get rammed.

All passengers (demolisher and siege engine) – Shoot down the flying pyrite bots. DPS the boss directly when you can.

Demolisher passenger – Use Grab Crate on the fallen pyrite (you’re reloading the ammo the driver needs to keep up the 10 stack mentioned above). If the shot-down pyrite is not close enough, and you’re about to run out, ask the motorcycle to bring one to you. Use Increased Speed if the boss is chasing you and about to catch up. If you get launched to the top of the boss, attack his turrets. Then jump into the motorcycle to get back to your demolisher.

Siege engine passenger – DPS the boss as you can, and use the shield generator if the boss is chasing you and gets too close. (Save it for when it’s needed).
